I was looking for some data to load short tens. I have my eye on a short ten and was trying to figure out what I might use it for and what I could feed it. In the back of my mind I thought I had been down this road before, when I was looking to shoot a LeFever I own about 15 years ago. Short tens were long out of favor when I was a kid and boxes sat on gun shop shelves for years. How I wish I had picked them up for a few dollars. Opportunity lost.
So I did a web search for short ten data and found that several board members here shared their short ten data. It took me several hours to find what I had left from loading back then. 38 loaded, Bismuth shells. 1 1/4 ounce 5’s and 2’s. Those should run me for a couple days or longer. As I recall they worked great. I can always load more. I was very happy to find them but then realized I’ve got a ton of gun related, non gun stuff.
Don’t know if I should be happy for finding the long loaded ammo already waiting, or worried about how many other things I’ve done, which I now no longer recall. I’ve got ammo loaded for rifles I no longer shoot, or even own. Ammo for some shot guns that I doubt I’ll ever use up. Gun parts for repairs like 1100s, parts for other guns, countless MEC parts, orphan barrels for doubles or pumps and semi autos, factory stocks that were take offs or bought as spares. What a mess I’ll leave behind for my family. I’ve left clear instructions how to deal with my guns but now need to leave clear instructions how to dispose of all the rest of my addiction. Ammo, if not labeled, as to content will need to be disassembled, I’ll label factory stocks for make and model, for EBay sale I guess. My father spent years culling his stuff, to reduce what I had to deal with. Now it’s my turn. Guess the first step will be to thin the factory stocks. Might as well sell them now to buy other clutter, I mean much needed stuff.

I can sympathize with you Jon. I to have amassed too many things and will have to start labeling items. A few of my old doubles I will label as not to sell but to keep them to hand down, one is from 1882-83 and the other is from 1885, both hammer guns. All of my reloads from 10 ga. through .410 are all labeled as to what is in them. The fly fishing stuff is another matter with all the reels and graphite and bamboo fly rods. Stationary power tools will be divided between my son and son-in-law and whatever they want to do with them. Hand tools the same. I have quite a collection of Stanley hand planes from #2-#8, plus new in box #45 Stanley with all the cutters and an excellent condition with the cosmoline still on it. #55 with all the cutters in original box. Have to have a get together and go through what they would like. I would hate to have them do this when I'm gone and they have no idea.

I have about 50 ball caps from the IndyCar races from the past 15 years and most of the teams. Autographs from all of the drivers and owners and dozens of Corvette books and magazines. Wanna trade? Or how about a tire from Earnhardt Jr's car from the Brickyard 500?

I'm just pullin' your leg, David. I know exactly what you and Jon are talking about. I have so much stuff around here I don't know what the heck to do with it. Take care, guys.

I gave each of my children either a dozen guns or the cash equivalent for a daughter who only wanted four for now. That cleared up about fifty spots several years ago but I made the classic mistake of continuing to buy more guns. I have a list of guns which are to go to each of the kids upon my death and several guns to friends if I go before they go. But the endless accessories and paraphernalia which go with shooting and loading is something I never got around to dealing with.
I am in my seventh decade of accumulating things, with little letup. While not a hoarder or pack rat but I have still got too much stuff and many items only make sense to me. I know what each item goes to and what I thought behind keeping it in the first place. Take off stocks are going to be the first thing I get rid, by 90% if I can. It is not the money invested that I worry about but the ungodly mess I will leave for others to deal with. It will take days to clean out my gun room in my basement but after Dove season I intend to get a good start on it.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
