I wonder if anyone has tried a similar recipe but done under vacuum for better penetration. The basic BLO, Turpenine, Spar Varnish formulae with various permutations of additives has been around a long time, but finding really good Spar Varnish seems to be more difficult as most of what I find has polyurethane in it.

I have also found that odorless Mineral Spirits works as well or better than turpentine which leaves your gun smelling like a pine for mighty long time.

Add paraffin wax in place of the Spar and you have really good cedar deck treatment.
