A sad admission but...humans are a bit bloodthirsty. It's worse when you're younger (especially young men) because you just don't understand much. As you mature, you're sense of your own mortality begins to work on you a bit. By the time you're an old (or older) soul, killing senselessly just seems so wrong (you're much more sympathetic now!). But...that is a personal choice, and it's between you and your maker.
