The middle finger gets bumped by the trigger guard because in recoil the gun moves and the finger remains stationary and inevitably the two smash together. The cure is to get the hand moving back together with the stock.
First point is the grip. Having the hand too close to the trigger guard, which happens when more than the first finger pad is put on the trigger.
Second point is the thickness and non slip surface of the grip area. A slim uncheckered straight grip SXS taught me that. A hand filling frip with a non slip surface will keep the hand and stock together during recoil.
Rubber pads on the trigger guard did nothing to stop my problem. The pain is a unique pain, like toothache in the hand. The problem stopped when I went to a thicker gripped stock.
