a useful adage....no one lies on his deathbed and wishes he had spent more time at the office.... I realize this isn't anywhere near the thought, but we had an aquaintance who did construction. He found out he had cancer in his mid thirties, worked for a couple more years, and passed on before he was forty. Anyway, he spent every moment of spare time doing every house and yard project. He even finished up two get a round tuit hobby car projects, not for himself, but so his wife could sell them. She's saving them just in case the two girls have grandkids that might want them. He did his day job on steroids for as long as he could, no doubt it was a bucket list. Just a story is all.

I'm at a strange point in life. Was lucky enough to decide I'm done working last year. Wife wraps up her work at the end of this week. Both in our late 50s. We are at a place where we can travel and learn about our country and the greater world. Money isn't infinite but enough if we're not idiots. Pretty happy about that. For stuff I wish I did, well most of those doors are long closed. More time with family who has passed. Silly stuff. I wish I'd gone to see U2 in Ireland when I was 20, but was too afraid of the logistics of hitching 120 miles to the airport the next day. Probably would have worked out but I was raised cautious (Dad was an actuary.) Should have seen the Dead when they played Alpine Valley WI. Wish I'd slept with Amy when she was interested, but I was in a relationship (that didn't last much longer anyway). But seriously...I hope I get out of our wonderful house, in our wonderful town and do shit. Most of which isn't hunting, sorry. Baby steps...going on Monday to pick up a motorcycle. Nothing fancy. Just a 400cc. Like I had 35 years ago. We'll see how that goes. This summer we start traveling in an RV. Visiting wife's uncle's place in Colorado after years of saying we're too busy. But enough ramble. I'll check back into this post in 20 years and see if I have anything meaningful to add.

Brings back a few memories CJF. A daughter got tickets for Eric Clapton in Denver, she says it's a must do show. Stevie Ray's brother is supposed to be opening for him. I can remember an Alpine Valley show, and the stunning copter wreck. A few years back, my youngest daughter wore a Stones concert t-shirt I picked up at the Rosemont Horizon back in '81. Kind of neat in a way to span a few decades. On the other hand, got some new hunting grounds opening up for this fall, new adventures, can't wait.

I think we all have that girl we should have....mine was named Tracey, a spitting image of Jody Foster but alas, involved with a co-worker of mine and I passed up that opportunity. I did see plenty of Dead shows, none at Alpine though. My only regret regarding that period of my life is not seeing more Dead shows. Enjoy what the future holds Chris!

I wish I could have hunted with my Grandfather who passed before we had the opportunity as my early years were far away from his California hunting grounds as my father pursued his Army career.
I wish I had brought one of several Purdeys I looked at in 1985 when I was a freshly commissioned 2LT and could not bring myself to spend the money. 38 years later I finally have a Purdey and a Boss, hunting with them for the last 38 years would have been better.
I still dream of starting my hunting season in Alaska on grouse in August, then working my way south as seasons open over time to culminate in November in Kansas. That will have to wait until I am truly retired.
I still dream of taking a wild boar with my Double Rifle; that can likely happen.
I wish I had not sold my Fox Sterlingworth BLNE 16 or my Francotte 20ga Knockabout.

You can shoot hogs in Hawaii with a double rifle anytime you want. 9.3x72 Chapuis making short work of them.
Out there doing it best I can.

Caught a MAC flight out of Travis. What was supposed to be a couple weeks of golf and dirt bike riding in the beautiful high desert of Southern California turned into a month long jaunt/goat rope through SE Asia and Oceania. ____________________________ Not braggin’, just sayin’.

Kahlil Gibran Wouldn’t try that on less than a 1 liter bike. The locals in their cages are in a damn hurry to get to happy hour.
