I am hoping someone can help me identify a Charles Daly marked O/U. It is a 16 gauge with 26” barrels and 2 3/4” chambers. It has a solid rib with a straight grip and checkered butt and a splinter forend. Weighs a little over 6 lbs. I will post barrel markings shortly. That type of gun was sold in the 20s and or 30s with the names of many vendors. I have had French and Belgian guns, very similar marked with other
names. All of these were pretty nicely made , but had sort of deep receivers and narrow grips. I have never seen one with a single trigger, though.

Models of Charles Daly O/U of that era were Champion, Commander, and Superior. I used to have a Commander model with a single trigger in 16 gauge that was built like a brick house. It had full and fuller chokes. I came across a catalog 5 or 10 years back on the internet that showed the various models from that era.

the lettres annales indicates proofing in 1936 (O with a small flourish at 3 o-clock)....that puts it solidly in the era that daly imported o&u guns built by masquelier in liege....there is a quick way to spot these guns - their forearm irons have a peculiar angled shape inletted into the wood on the sides....have never seen that exact shape on any other makers guns. i never owned one, but have looked at several examples over the years....12boreman has identified the models - and in my opinion they are not a "fine" gun, but well above the average belgian gun quality. i see marking on the left side of the single trigger,...won't be surprised to find it's a miller....looks like a nice gun - maybe with a touch of choke openings. https://littlegun.be/arme%20belge/artisans%20identifies%20ma/a%20masquelier%20gb.htmbest regards, tom

Thank you guys. Do you feel this gun might be in the $1200 to $1500 range. Gun is probably 70% condition. Any thoughts?

I have an article written by the late gun writer Don Zutz who verifies the above that they were made by Masquelier. For those who were previously unaware, that adds one more country to the fairly long list of those as a source of guns marked Charles Daly. The Zutz article also confirms that if the Commander OUs had single triggers, they were sourced from Miller.

By this time, lots had been cast & the Charles Daly modell, Schoverling, Daly & Gales, etc., were all divided & sold. Doesn't even resemble the pre-WWI version. So, the owner of the Charles Daly name was just looking to source & fill orders.
