Bro. Curtis didn't quite resolve the inadequate wood at the head-of-the-stock issue frown

Indeed, the Achilles heel of the sidelock. How my 3" chambered 12 bore Smith has held up w/o stock head cracks is truly a bit of a wonder. RWTF

Surely you don't think that is the only problematic issue with this agglomeration of parts. Or perhaps you do.

It's pretty easy to see why this pile of junk never went into production.

When one of the Lefever sons went to Toledo, they produced a gun with a sear arrangement like that. Reminiscent of the Lefever mechanism.

Clarance Wollam put the sear and sear spring on the sideplate and used a V-mainspring as both the power sources for the hammers and the cocking rod.

Union Firearms has a similar look. Located in Toledo, about 30 miles from Defiance and Bowling Green, both haunts of the Lefevers. The arching sear, like the Curtiss patent , pivots on the screw visible on the side near the top of the action which might look like a firing pin retainer screw.

Colton Fire Arms action in the Sears catalog No.112 appears to be the same image
