Semmer called that extra four-digit number on the left watertable and forearm iron (circled in red) an assembly number --

Not sure I buy that as the serial number (yellow) or the last three or four digits of it are stamped on most every part of the gun. I don't believe anyone still alive knows what that four-digit number really means. We don't see that extra four-digit number on A- to EEO-grades?!?

In going through the pictures I've saved I found a 16-gauge with the pellet counts on the lug Xd and Hd out.

We see the W.H. on a lot of Remington doubles and the anchor inspector's stamp is seen on most Remington guns throughout their history.
