It is heavy at that point (60-plus pounds), but the wheels and the handle extension make it manageable. I weigh everything before I head to the airport (on a digital bathroom scale) to make sure there are no surprises, but even if there are... I can move a few things from the big duffle to the little one until the big one is under the 50lb limit on their scale at the gate. I have to credit my wife for this creative solution. When I pick up the big duffle at my destination, I then re-insert the small duffle back into the big one and wheel it all away to my ride or my rental vehicle.

While on the subject of gun cases, can anyone tell me where to bug the foam these cases are lined with? I think I want the foam that is already diced up so as to tailor the case to a particular gun. I have cut out foam before in a couple of cases but then that has left me with a case for one particular gun only. Any help?

I think it's worth keeping in mind with the pluck type foam that the segments really don't go back in and stay where they're supposed to, or at least they don't seem to.

Thanks Craigd. I already discovered what you said about the foam segments not going back in. I should have made it clearer that I am thinking of several sheets of the segmented foam and then just swap them out with different guns while keeping the base layer in place. I will try the foamfactory.

Pelicans are the gold standard for protection, but they’re just so big and bulky. You want protection from the luggage gOrilla you better think big and bulky and leave cOol looking at home.
