CC here, I always examine very closely any Fox or Parker stock that the Client wants to have the comb 'raised'The lower the grade of each make, the less I want to risk the setting"UP" Several points I check, Has the stock ever been repaired in the 'Hand' or through the Head,Trojen VH and some Gh grade Parkers dont want to'Set up' due to the Grain usually running in a downward direction from the head to the Pistol-Grip. Sterlingworth& some Agrade Foxes that have Medium grade American Walnut dont like to have their"Fibers Stretched "UP" Cast, both "ON" and"IN" usually works 'OK' I recently had a H A Linder Daley,Beautifull 12b DB,The original Bend(drop) at heel was 2.7/8th" Stock length over orig. Horn B/P.14.3/8th.Somebody had attempted to raise the Heel dim.(It had a'Good 1/2 pistol grip,R/Knob.Busted the near mint stock thru the screw-hole, filled the'Gash' with White-Glue, raised the heel dim to2.3/4" A big zero at the'face dim,' so I 'Jigged-it, put the Acme threads to lets screw this bugger up to breaking point(again) I told the Client I alwas wanted to Break a Clients Stock in my Jig; It raised to 1.7/8ths at the heel. I also told Steve"Not to worry I'll make a new stock if you dont like what I'm about to do to your'Linder Daley..I cleaned out the 'Old Girls Gash'no Idea what all that white crud was, meeting these old European Trophies' after they have been'Laid out on the Table' and had the terrible hand of the Dr of death whacking on their vulnerable parts....I made a Frenchie Walnut wedge.getting the grain running exactly in line with the grain running thru the Pistol-Grip,smoke-blacked it into the'G',glued it all togather."VIOLA'Bend stayed at 1.7/8th(had expected it to move down somewhat!Re-Inletted all sears Trigger-plate, triggers. Re-fitted the'Hand-pin'Acts as a Breech-Pin on a Boss,H&H,Purdey,Had to stretch the Trigger-Guard 1/8th to gain the length that the stock Raising had made a difference of.Re-Inletted the Guard&screw,Jigged it back in"Crackem&Burnem's"Torture Machine, screwed the clamps,1/2"cast off-1/2"cast-on,1/2"down and finally...1/2" UP'Stock settled back with no cracks or pops.Shot 150 rounds thru gun over next week,1.1/8oz 2.3/4"& 1.1/4oz.2.3/4" Made a good'ModernDrop(Bend) 1/4"cast off'@Butt-End, Steve has fired several Hundred rounds thru the old 1906(Ithink) gun.Saved a bit of 'Prussian Gun' History,Dr,Raymond said He bets old Linder has rolled over in his grave over this'Stunt' by DT.Crackem & Burnem's Motto"We're not Afraid!!
