Came across a gun today marked as above. Obviously a fake/forgery. Hammer double 12 bore made pre 1875 with Birmingham Proof marks. Not a bad gun and perfectly sound and in Proof. Someone trading on the good name of Charles Lancaster to fool the less well informed. I just wondered if anyone else had come across the 'Lankaster' name on guns? Lagopus.....

Raimey will need to confirm, but is LanKaster another word for shotgun in Duetche? Serbian? ланкастер? Possibly for export to the Continent?

Could be for export to fool someone somewhere who had only a little knowledge of English guns. I once had a rather nice boxlock non-ejector marked W.J.GREENEN, The Strand, London. Most of the Forgery type guns I have come across have either had addresses on just The Strand, London or Oxford Street, London but with no number or other details. Just never come across a Lankaster before. Reilly and Moore with various spelling differences crop up from time to time. Lagopus.....

I would go the French route, their standard reply, and blame it on the Belgians.

It was certainly made in England this one. It was intended to deceive somewhat much like all those Belgian made 'W. Richards' guns that turn up State side. Lagopus.....
