I had one experience with Herschel Chadick, which was simply too poor to ever take the chance of repeating. It didn't involve a Parker, just a small frame Martini .22. This was before the internet made photos available. It would be a gross understatement to say the gun which arrived was not as described. I never even gave a passing thought to dealing with him after the first experience.

It is perfectly obvious from the pictures in Baer that the gun was restocked at the time they were taken and Larry says so. The gun is also picture in his combined volume on pages 114 and 115. It is interesting that the slot in the head of the roll pin is still at an angle after the other enhancement work the gun has had.

The truth of most upgrades and enhancements of potential valuable things is that there is always something that is left undone.
Be that the forgotten underside of something, the wrong finish under something, the screw replacement that should be hand cut but is not or the forgotten "law" that says something present is an anachronism. Something out of place in time. Think of the wristwatch on a period cowboy or the Shakespearean doublet. Think of the clock striking in the time of Julius Caesar. These are not possible in the real world.
Perhaps this is what one sees when looking at certain "original" guns that will command that very high price if true and sent to Coventry if false.
The large faults are obvious to a casual observer and are often pointed out by the fraudster. Remember that it is the bane of some gullible men that they cannot see the forest for the trees. This is the most helpful trait that aids the purveyor of the disguised moderate in the dress of the best.
It is a wise man that asks the why of something that appears odd or out of place. Study the small things and this often leads the eye and mind to something larger.
Best,
John

Chaddick is a gun dealer. No more, no less. I have a friend in the business who has owned a shop specializing in Colt SAA's, target rifles and Class III stuff for many, many years. He is an incredible resource of knowledge on these items. Still he never sets himself up as anything more than a businessman/firearms dealer.

Now a funny story about Chaddick or one of his employees.

I don't know Parkers so excuse me if I describe the gun incorrectly.

A friend heard of a $750 Grade Parker hammergun for sale a Chaddicks. From the description it was in beautiful shape and even with the 3 1/2" of DAH, he thought he would take a chance on it. He could always have it restocked. So he negotiates a price low enough to allow such work if needed.

Gun arrives. In better condition than description. In fact it is just about perfect (I have seen it. Wow!) As to the DAH and DAC, well the dimensions are nearly perfect for him. More like 2" DAH.

How could such a mistake be made?

Well if you sit the gun upside down on a flat surface with the hammers in the down position....... Well the gun rests on the hammers and muzzles and measures nicely at 3 1/2" DAH. How any dealer could understand DAH and yet make such a foolish mistake?

From my understanding, that hammergun has killed quite a few doves, quail and has even seen the inside of a flyers ring at a SxS competion.

Chaddick has ticked off a lot of people in Texas and other places too with his deceptive ways.
Swan song indeed! This is his chance to show his remaining guns that WILL be sold and up the bid.
The man was a crook in the business and anyone that defends him stands to wallow with the pigs as well.

I haven't read the article. I'm a picture kind of guy when A-1s are concerned. Does Herschel own those guns? Does he have them on consignment? You wouldn't know it by reading his ad.

Bill, I don't know exactly who owns all those A1S Parkers but it seems just too coincidental that Bob's Guns had on display at Pintail Point a cased pair of 20 ga. A1S Parkers and a cased 28/.410 combo A1S Parker, asking price for each I believe was somewhere between $425k and $450k. Could they have been the same guns from the DGJ?? My guess is "probably", it would be just too coincidental to be otherwise. . . of course, I didn't jot down the serial numbers of those at Pintail Point. Did you see them in Bob's booth?

Didnt the article in the DGJ say that Chadick was visiting Michigan? Bobs Guns is in northern Michigan...kind of an odd coincidence. $425k and $450 sounds about right if it was Bobs, proud of his guns isnt he? Or are they? This is the picture our own web master took at the vintage cup, of Bobs matched pair 20s, which the is same gun on page 90 in the DGJ, which is Chadicks? looks like the same stock to me, and also smells a bit fishy.....

Nice looking set, but not, as the sign says, the only A-1 20 gauge two gun set.

The 28 ga sighting I mentioned was at Bob's booth in Tulsa 3 o4 4 shows back. Bob sure was a jerky guy from what I could see. No manners. Of the big name dealers I have met so far only Jack Puglisi made a positive impression.
