Nice buck SKB...
I killed my first deer 38 years ago with a 760 Remington 30.06.
I've always used things for thier intended purpose..Rifles are for deer and shotguns are for wingshooting.

...snobbery at it's finest. I'd much rather spend my remaining time hunting with most of the deer hunters I've met than associating with some bird hunting purist who feels his method of "sport" is superior to other's chosen methods. Guess I'm a snob. I don't "condemn" any legal form of hunting - but I don't think much of some. Killing over bait. Ground-swatting. Sluicing swimming waterfowl. Driven shoots, or herding game toward a posted shooter. Some day they may join unlimited killing, shooting from a vehicle, baiting waterfowl, jack-lighting deer and other methods which once were legal and are no longer. Ethics are personal limits on personal practices. Some choose to set theirs at the lowest level permitted by law. Others, apparently, are snobs.

Jack,
I believe that there are a few fellows across the pond that feel that "driven shoots" may be the highest form of the sport. That said, I believe that those fellows have also been referred to as "snobs".
Best, Ken

I throw out apples in my woodlot to get a nice close shot with an original muzzleloader. Guess that makes me a slob. But I wonder how many deer are crippled or die unretrieved because some hunters shoot at them at 200+ yards with plastic sabots in scope-sighted, stainless steel, kevlar-stocked new muzzleloaders?

I'm the biggest snob of all. If I were king, the privilege of hunting feathered game would be the exclusive preserve of those who hunt with a dog.
I've lost two cripples with a dog: once when I called him in from whitecaps chasing a diver 200 metres from shore, for fear of his drowning, and once when a black plummeted through ice and couldn't be retrieved.

I have three boys and all would love to hunt either bow or slug, but after my father in law died, we lost the chance to use private land, and the opportunity to access private land is nil, unless one has connections, even in western NJ (Huntedon county). Landowners are scared of the liabilty issues and angry at inconsiderate hunters ( I cant't blame them!}which has greatly limited access to land. I refuse to take my boys on hunt public land here in NJ due to saftey concerns based on what I see out there. A great opportunity that my boys have lost, but safety comes first.

With my dog I feel like a Prince. Otherwise, I feel like a King.
