Well said my fellow NH'er.I can count on one hand the number of guys I have seen Deer hunting in the last 10 years,I stalk and call them in with grunts at dawn and dusk.Been doing it since I was 16 and like you try to keep a few old guns in the rotation.Presently a pre war 71,nice Austrian Cape, and a couple of neat Mannlicher Schonauer's.Nothing like calling in a 200+ pounder Those that dismiss this well thats fine but no reason to call others ambushers, drunks and not worthy of enjoying the sunrise and sunset and all thats in between in the woods.Your only showing your ingnorance and not doing any of us in the hunting/shooting world any good.Lots of jerks in the duck blinds too but we,as hunters don't call them all slobs.Grow up and stand together. We don't need those that chose to divide.

Deer hunters are the future of hunting Jack, while "Grouse numbers are up, hunter numbers are down", or so says the Grand Rapids Press. Small game tags are at an all-time low, while deer and turkey tags are at an all-time high. Be careful of your opinion, they're carrying your load, and they might not let you back into the woods again.

Well said Dave, particularly your second paragraph!
Although you left out jerks in the uplands as well!

No excuses, CB. IMHO, bushwhacking Bambi is just one step up from shooting critters over bait. And too many once-a-year slob hunters are doing it these days. In Minnesota, rifle deer season spoils two weeks of sutumn when a man can't spend his days in the woods walking, working a dog and wingshooting. Ahhhhh.....snobbery at it's finest. For myself, any hunting is good hunting. A day spent in the woods is better than a day doing most anything else. Maybe your walking, working a dog, and wingshooting is spoiling some fellow's day when he could be sitting on stand waiting for the buck of his lifetime to come out. I'd much rather spend my remaining time hunting with most of the deer hunters I've met than associating with some bird hunting purist who feels his method of "sport" is superior to other's chosen methods.

If it's ethical, fair chase, and within the law I'm for any hunting season, even if I don't partake. A slob hunter can make any pursuit look bad fur or feather. I hear too many "hunters against hunters" comments these days.
Ken Now that does deserve an 'amen'. Think twice before you condemn a legal form of hunting just because it's not your cup of tea, otherwise your cup might soon be dry. There are slob bowhunters, people who hunt behind pointing dogs, people who hunt w/ retrievers, deer hunters, dove hunters, etc etc. No group is exempt...
Always looking for small bore Francotte SxS shotguns.

Never dreamed we had so many deer hunters on a SxS forum.

I hunt'em and spend a fair amount of money every year planting food plots and maintaining shooting towers on my middle Ga. woodlands. I don't climb anymore, even to get into the shooting towers, but have a few ground blinds set up within easy distance to the truck. I rarely shoot one, but I'll go a couple of times a week throughout the long Georgia season just to look at the deer, hogs and turkey and everything else that you see while deer hunting. I've shot a plenty of them over the years, but nowadays I'd rather see a kid get one...Geo

I just took a great south dakota whitetail with my muzzloader I built. First blood and the fore-end isnt even finished yet. I'll get pics up soon. I cut my teeth on whitetails and they still make my blood boil. I also managed to get in a few roosters, the season opens early on the rez. Steve
