The Heym Rifle is clearly marked as to the maker and the serial number is 5858. For what ever reason this rifle has no proof marks or proof code. On the barrel is the serial number 5858AH. This is the important part. I then tried to find other Heym marked guns, both rifles and shotguns and it seems the ones I found had a barrel number with the “AH”. These were all made when August Heym was running the company, however he was also a master engraver so I was (am) unsure if the “AH” is on all guns made when he ran the company or just the ones he engraved. The other problem is trying to get folks to remove the barrels to check for the “AH”. I have seen enough Heym marked guns with the “AH” after the serial number to feel comfortable is stating that other guns not marked Heym but in this serial number range with the “AH” are Heym.
The Daly marked shotgun you posted a picture of is serial number 5898AH with a proof date of 9/28.
