I am with Dave, the bow season is a special time of the year for me. I absolutely love it. It does bother me that I have to choose between deer hunting and grouse/woodcock with the dogs. For ten years I have always headed to Northern Michigan for a few days of bird hunting the second week of October. Due to work constraints couldn't do it, so am going to try for this week or next. I did get to sit in the woods with a bow Friday evening and Saturday. Cold, brisk , sunny Saturday morning. Ideal weather for either birds or deer.

One way I have gotten excited about deer hunting is getting my nephew into bow hunting. The weekend of October 5-7th was miserably hot for Michigan, but he was so excited I trounced out their with him, sweat, mosquitos and all. His excitement has rubbed off on me.

I did work the dogs today on penned raised quail. They were happy, but under their breath I think I heard one of them say something about missing our mid day hamburger from Lovells, MI! I got the message and promised them we would get up there.
