Quit deer hunting years ago. I miss the venison, but not the rest of it: sitting in a tree stand freezing my extremities for hours, just for a one-shot bushwhacking kill. What kind of sport is that? Minnesota deer hunters used to be the bottom-feeders of the field sports - too many spent too much time bragging in the bars, crashing ATVs, 'road hunting,' shooting carelessly, and making the woods unsafe for man and beast.

When deer season comes to Minnesota, we stay out of the grouse woods and take the dogs down to Iowa for pheasant.
