I just purchased a very nice Stephan Grant 28 gauge that has some work that needs to be done. The major problem is an area of rust on one of the barrels that is too deep to be filed out. My question is, can this area be TIG welded in, worked down and then blacked? Will the area match the rest of the barrel? Here is a picture of the area in question: ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/E768ZtE.jpg)

In that area I'd want al least 30 thousands wall thickness. Look as if you'd lose half or more from striking that out.

Laser welding, TIG is too hot. It should match nicely when rust blued.

I had a Lefever repaired in this fashion a few years ago by Bachelder. Not sure if it was TIG or EB welded but the repair was undetectable.
Hope this helps.

I reblued a 21 that had TIG and MIG weld all over the reciever. I used rust blue and the job was perfect. Matched the barrels also.

It Was TIG- I set up the Hobart 250 Amp Cyber-TIG with Linde Torch for him when he moved from his old shop on Leonard St- to the newer and bigger one on Plymouth. Brad's father owned an operated a machine shop in Grand Rapids, and Brad apprenticed there- 1950-1980's- That's where he got the solid machine shop training, including TIG welding, that he carried through his long, but sadly not long enough, gunsmithing career.
