To stop muzzle jump you are better off hanging a dead cat from the barrel than porting!

Another old guy here who hates ported barrels.
As already said, on several occasions ported barrels
saved me from buying another gun that I really didn't need.
I'm not much of a fan of extended choke tubes on a side by side or a Cutts compensator on a pump gun, either.

I have a Wingmaster with a very hard to find 34" vent rib Remington barrel. It was used for card shooting and a previous owner did indeed port it with a drill, in a pattern which couldn't have been intentional.

I have considered having the holes microtigged and restruck, then blued. Looks like death eating a cracker.

Back in 1985 or so, when I was a young aspiring trapshooter, I sold a Winchester 101 trap gun to an old codger to fund my next (and hopefully better) trap gun.

The next week he asks me to look at it. He states proudly "I ported it!".

He sure did. On his drill press complete with marks where the drill ran off because he's never heard of a center punch. None of the jagged holes were in line with each other or at the same angle.

The best part may have been the deep marks in the stock from the vise jaws.

I was speechless. It's his property and he can destroy it if he wants but honestly had I known his plan I wouldn't have sold it to him.

I'm guessing it still recoils.

But for a second opinion, it's ugly too...

A crowning touch on a Thread like this would be for Greg to post photos of his Hussey Imperial Ejector with a bunch of holes Photo-Shopped into the barrels. It would be interesting to see just how gullible some of the guys would be with their responses.

The guy who recently told us about chopping 6" of the barrels of a Colt Model 1883 to make a Cowboy Action gun would probably think ventilating the muzzles of a $10,000 Hussey is a wonderful idea. Of course, neither act is anywhere near as dumb as being a gun owner who votes for anti-gun Democrats. Unfortunately, the guys who admit to supporting anti-gunners aren't jerking our chain.

Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug
