I met Nigel regularly at the auctions and he was always the most polite and friendly soul to me. I had several interesting conversations about obscure proof marks and mechanisms and he was always open to new ideas and information and never dismissive of my contribution. My proudest moment was showing him something he didn't already know and have written down in his little note book. Or at least he was kind enough to let me think that! I had no idea he was so close to shuffling off this mortal coil, I say 'shuffling' as he had suffered with very bad back problems for many years and always seemed to be shuffling up and down the racks of guns at the auctions! RIP
