Thanks Mike. The double strike is very interesting (confusing also). Is it common to have a double strike? As an "A", it would have been 1927, close to his birth year... but a double A doesn't make sense according to the coding chart you referenced.

Also, there is a mark just above the AA. Not sure if that is just pitting or some other type of marking.

Great story about your Grand dad and his 410 Union Armera.
I have owned several Grulla's and even had an early 215, 20 bore UA.
Would love to see a picture of the gun sometime.
