On a previous thread I inquired about smiths in the Portland/Seattle area that could install a leather pad. I think I would like to try my hand at installing it myself, saving roughly $200. based on the $250-300 estimates that I see most gunsmiths charge.

Is there an how to article or book that describes the job in detail from start to finish? I remember the recent article with pics showing the chiseling of the butt and burnishing of the leather, but not much info on how to actually stretch the leather over the pad correctly.

Check the archives here. This subject was covered in excellent detail in the past. Good Luck, it should be fun!

Pete, unfortunately most of the photos from C.J.'s post are "no longer available".

It was worth while downloading, but I didn't get around to it and now, alas, it is
too late.

Pete, do you have Recoil Rob's?

If you don't I can forward it.
