Is TREWAX, sold at TruValue Hardware, a good protectorant for black chrome receivers and barrels? Might it work for silver nitride, as well? Recommendations ??

TreWax, Johnson's Paste Wax (the stuff for floors and furniture, not the car wax), and Renaissance Wax will all work. Even the old Classic Car Wax (pure carnauba, no abrasives) will work.

Black chrome, contrary to what it's name implies, is somewhat softer than true, triple chrome plating. It was originally developed for use in precision optics.
I wouldn't spend much time rubbing it with anything. A clean, soft cloth with a bit of clean oil is more than adequate.
Silver nitride is tough.
