Dave, can you still buy some old-fashion friction tape like we used to put on hockey sticks? If you can, lay a strip of that on your shiny rib and see if it makes a difference.

FWIW the only double I have with a swamped rib is a Manufrance Ideal. The rib dips out of sight at the rear like Ted's pic shows, but it doesn't disappear. It comes back up at the muzzles where the front sight is located. I thought that's what they all did...Geo
Now if I can just get that safety arrangement in my head.

Both of my Manufrance Ideals have what I have always called a swamped rib. It is there at the breach, dives down for the rest of the barrel length and reappears near the muzzle

dave, as to your two 16's that appear to be identical...
maybe they are not...one may be regulated to shoot to a point of aim at a certain distance and the other not so?
spend some time at the patterning board with both guns and report back to us with yo findings...make sure all loads used are the same in all respects...

Yaaa, it's most likely operator error. Vicious cycle of me getting off on the wrong foot with the faster gun and been since trying to shoot it too "carefully." The kiss of death.
