canvasback,
I can't argue with your viewpoint, it makes sense. None of these guns are being made anymore and I always addressed each one as it came along. I found out that a good deal passed up hardly ever returned, but if accepted could be sold or traded if something better came along ( hopefully for a better deal). In the meantime it was fun to use something different for awhile. I miss being able to follow a bird dog or kick brush piles.

Raimey,
Your discussion of Sauer's involvement in Lindner's production is pretty much the story of Sauer's " for the trade" operation. With the same machines and workmen, they could produce the parts for Lindner to produce Daly's doubles from; produce finished doubles, marked with some supplier's logo ; produce finished unmarked doubles, to be sold in local shops, sometimes marked by the shop or sometimes unmarked ( often called "Guild Guns"); and all the while produce guns for Daly, themselves ( usually Drillings) and Sauer branded guns to be sold by suppliers all over the world( sometimes the same supplier they may have made " House Brand" guns for). Is there any wonder so many look similar to each other.

Mike, sorry to hear that kind of activity is no longer part of your repertoire. Few things finer than the poke of the foot at that brush pile. I'll think of you this fall and hope the future holds more for you.

canvasback,
thanks for the good thoughts. My best deer stands were always elevated blinds and I can't climb any more; but I still have two ground box blinds that I can drive right next to. One was always good in the evenings and the other, in the mornings; so on nice days, I can still go out and remember the old days. "Ole big boy" is not likely to come with my pickup truck parked there; but he might follow a "sweet young thing" out, during the rut. I cook for the camp a lot, so even when I don't go out I still enjoy being there, pretending to hunt. When I really go down hill, we call the cabin's porch "stand # 1" and more than a couple deer, beaver, and several coyotes have been taken from the bench rest there. As long as you think you are still hunting, you have something to look forward to.
