......Reminds me of Mauser bolt actions, endless slight variations of the same design like steel type and machine work. Making some Mausers like the G33/40 or FN Supreme much more desirable for a custom build as they are the Pinnacle of Perfect to steal a line from Raimey.
Take an Artistic License, Literary Liberty or Literary License anytime and do include phrases like >>Mechanical Contrivance<< or >>Grande Complications<< whenever possible. Me thinks I lifted one or more of the terms from the mechanics in Ferlach? Or it could be that they just arrived to me in a dream........ Cheers, Raimey rse

One other item, if I were making such a purchase, I would like to know if the both scears, upper & lower, are actually in place. Many times that top screw is just a place holder, being more or less a fake.

canvasback, Postwar Sauers, made before the Sauer name was moved to West Germany are still desirable as solid hunting guns, maybe not as finely finished as pre war guns, but good solid guns nevertheless. After the Sauer name left, the same design guns were made under the Fortuna name and were also good solid guns. "Desirable" is one thing, and "collectable" is something else. A gun ( or anything else) can be desirable for one reason, and not collectable. Winchester Mod. 12s, seem to be collectable, but the same gun in solid frame form (mod 25), not so much. Mike

But those for the most part aren't collectible Ford.

To make it simple: If you want a Hagn Gun buy it(it's the only one he built) - if you want a Sauer, i.e. a German gun of history, don't buy it!

One other item, if I were making such a purchase, I would like to know if the both scears, upper & lower, are actually in place. Many times that top screw is just a place holder, being more or less a fake... Well, isn’t that interesting. On it and will do, consider it added it the list of questions. Will report back my findings. To make it simple: If you want a Hagn Gun buy it(it's the only one he built) - if you want a Sauer, i.e. a German gun of history, don't buy it To take a literary license from Raimey (and the Germans), it’s neither fish nor meat. I am not after a “Sauer” nor a “Hagn”, but rather a SxS built by a master on an extraordinary action. “Perfect mechanical contrivance” if you will. So the first question is this an extraordinary action? So far, the answer is pointing to a disappointing no, but only after a thorough investigation will I know for absolute certainty. Fingers crossed things improve once I have more information from Martini/Hagn but it’s not looking good.

Yes, the longarm would be best defined as >>Weder Fisch noch Fleisch<< being some quasi - pseudo double; something between production & a one off.... But again immediately after WWII such examples surfaced.
Now the platform is typical of the >>Pinnacle of Perfection<< where H.A. Lindner took the A&D Body Action w/ the 2nd novel advancement by A&D of >>Belts and Braces<< and made it a staple for Charles Daly offerings. Now H.A. Lindner only had limited space and probably a couple foot lathes & a handful of files plus some apprentice engravers who were applying their craft via a template. So H.A. Lindner had to have an accomplance & info points to a Satellite Shop under Sauer's roof. There, H.A. Lindner had the resources to roll out all of these upper rung offerings, which really couldn't have origins in the basement of the H.A. Lindner 3 story house. So with all that said Sauer was involved w/ Lindner, and for sure with Daly, and more than likely Lindner leaned heavily on the formidable machine-shop of Sauer. Now we really haven't seen any connection to Sauer less hearsay.
As you say, or has been said, it may be a pre-WWII Suhl A&D Body Action with overhanging scears with a stock by Hagn, refreshed by Hagn and case-coloured by a subcontractor of Hagn that has a heavy hand with charcoal?
Any leads if Frühauf provided the info suggesting the engraver?
Cheers,
Raimey rse

Mike I'm really not trying to argue Mike. I value your opinions too much. What I meant is that for not too dissimilar money, one can acquire a pre war Sauer (or many other fine SxS) that are light years ahead of the "solid" post war Sauers. So my view is why mess with them. Heck, for less money I can get a pre war Husqvarna 310 variant. And there is no comparison.

Raimey, CCH on that gun was highly likely to have been done by Oskar Kob.

Raimey, That is my point, desirable doesn't mean something is collectable, and not being collectable doesn't mean it isn't desirable. Mike
