In San Antonio, Texas 1847-1902, Listed in the 1850 census as a gunsmith, age 30, from Germany with wife Caroline, age 30, from France. In directories as Charles Hummel, Gunmaker in 1850, Hummel & Mauermann in 1873, and C. Hummel & Son, 1877-1897. Several half-stock plains rifles by Hummel are known. He eventually became one of the largest gun dealers in Texas. His later newspaper ads featured Colts, Winchesters, various shoguns, pistols, cutlery, ammunition, etc. at the "Sign of the Golden Winchester Carbine and Colt's Pistol".
