Are there any YouTube videos for tearing down a back action hammergun? I do have a set of Chapman screwdrivers. Also, how can I clean the stock without removing finish? I wish I had ultrasonic cleaner for the metal furniture but that's out of the question for now.

vam5067, You should be prepared to still grind one or more Chapman bits to fit. Mike

Steve (SKB) has a great process for cleaning the stock wood without damaging the finish. He shared it with me and I used it last year. It worked great. He’ll probably be along shortly and can share it with you.

Can't help on the wood finish, I always start from scratch. For cleaning the metal work, I use dishwasher powder. Place all the components in a good sized saucepan, add hot water to just cover and about 50 ml of dishwasher powder, the cheaper generic type works just fine. Bring to the boil and let simmer for 5-10 minutes. Rinse well, blow out all the pin holes and place to dry in the kitchen oven set at about 90 deg C for about 10-20 mins. Brush off the rust and remaning dirt with a soft brass brush or Dremel taking care to not damage any remaining colour hardening. Oil and you are done. If you get access to a ultrasonic cleaner, DO NOT use the liquid often supplied to aid the cleaning of jewellery etc. Some of these solutions strip off colour hardening as quick as look at them!

Toby is right on the ultrasonic. I use granular Spic and Span in water and it works well without harming case color. After the ultrasonic treatment a soft bristle brush, even an old toothbrush, will remove any gunk left behind. Then rinse in hot tap water, blow dry with compressed air, and spray with WD40. Let sit and blow and wipe off any extra WD40. Works great without complete disassembly.

Awesome, thanks so much. The reason I started this thread was due to my assumption I'd win a J. Blanch sidelever on GunBroker.com but I got bombarded at the last minute and ended up losing the gun...oh well, my appetite has been wet so it probably won't be long until I pull the trigger on another hammergun.
