This bell was in the Workshop Managers Office, and could be heard all through No 2 Irongate factory. It was rung for "Getting attention of the Dirty-Handed Masse's(sp?) for Stand by your workbench Mr Tom(Purdey) or some Dignitary,(some King or Prince) was on a "Walkabout" through the Factory. It fell into disuse'after the move from No 2 Irongate Wharf Rd.(Next door to the Westminster Arms Pub') to No 22 Irongate Wharf Rd. Where the factory had real electric Phones,Etc. No 2 Had the "Blow into a tube fixed to the wall, and 2 floors up a whistle sounded, you pulled the plug out and shouted into the mouthpiece.Hellow, then stuck your ear to the tube, and whoever "called shouted their message to you....Hows that for Gunmaking history.......The Bell, after it fell into 'dissuse' it fell into Young Trevallions "If your going to throw it into the rubbish bin, I'll save it for 'History's sake!!!!...I was 17 at the time......

Thank you sir. The name was familiar but I once lived in Rockford, IL where every second person was named Bill Johnson.

Mrs. Morris, my kindergarten teacher, had a bell just like this one to call us back from
the playground.
