It's interesting how we end up with a hobby. For me it started when I started duck hunting about 1990 or so. I don't come from a family with any kind of sporting tradition, it was just a few of my friends and Fraternity Brothers and I figuring it out for ourselves. I started buying books of the how to sort. Some authors that come to mind are Ralph Coykenndall, Zack Taylor and Bob Brister. I started popping by used book stores when ever I passed them and found some cool older stuff. Then I found Sporting Classics Magazine, back when they had a great book column that talked about the classic writers, that is what really got me hooked. I discovered Nash Buckingham, Corey Ford, Robert Ruark, Archibald Rutledge, Havilah Babcock and a bunch of others. At this point, I really prefer the old sotories and dont really pay much attention to the How To stuff, I do buy good reference books when I find them as well and was thrilled to find a copy of Walt's Ithaca book a while ago.
I think I have more fun with the books than I do with the guns and they take up much less room too.
