sometimes smiths that are not familure with model 12s measure the chamber of a dismounted barrel and come up with a short chamber, and lengthen it... not realizing that the chamber ring still in the receiver is part of the chamber on a model 12....you now have a standard field gun with a 3in chamber...could now also have a step after the chamber ring...if the smith decided to polished the chamber after lengthening it, which will have your hulls sticking on the step instead of extracting and ejecting.....

always ask a smith if he is familure with model 12s B4 letting him work on your gun..............as model 12s are easy to mess up if the smiths a doofus.....
