Let's see if this idiot can find anyplace where I ever said that I did that. During most of the times I went to this establishment, I was riding a bicycle, and earning a few bucks from my paper route. Then, I stopped in a couple times when I was in college. During that period, I wasn't exactly flush with cash, or buying firearms. I had only the few guns that my Dad gave to me, and a couple I bought used from other sources with my meager earnings.
Shortly after that, Gene was more or less forced into retirement by the BATF. He wasn't very good with the record keeping aspect of the gun business. His wife did most of that, but when she wasn't around, he sold guns to anyone he trusted without any thought to three day waiting periods or Bound Ledger Book entries. The final time I visited him, during the Gulf War, was at the new house he built after retiring. I went there seeking a bolt stop for a Siamese Mauser that I was converting to .45-70.
Gene wasn't feeling good, so we didn't go out to his shop to look for the part I needed. I went home without buying anything.
