Hello all,
I am new here but have visited for awhile. Nice site!
I recently acquired a gun cleaning rod of a design that I have never seen before. Nice hardwood with 3 sections that are permanently connected by brass hinges, secured in place by sliding tubular brass ferrules to lock the rod in the extended position. It folds down to 12” and is 31” when extended. No markings anywhere for identification.
Can’t figure out how to post pics here yet (see no “file manager” link on this page), but have some up on the FB SxS group. If anyone can help with info on who manufactured this and how old it might be, that would be great. I have searched but found nothing similar. Thank you!

Can someone give me advice? I went to FAQ and it says to click “file manager” on the post or reply page. If tried 6 times....searched and do not see any link like that. I’ve never had trouble posting photos like this. Must be missing something.

The file manager is not on this site. To post a pic here you have to store your picture on a third party hosting site. There's lots of them. Then follow the off site posting instructions on your hosting site to copy the pic here...Geo

That is a very nice cleaning rod. Takes some thought making it to get it to close and open right.

And it locks up tight! I can’t believe this is a one-off production, but I have searched and can’t find anything like it. Also, whoever made it was skilled. The materials and tolerances are high grade, so having no maker’s markings just increases the mystery. I would have signed/stamped this if I made it! Lol. Hopefully someone will come up with some info.

That sounds like something I NEED. In .45 caliber however.
I have seen hinges like that. Interesting idea. Hmmm. I wonder if I can pull it off?

Just want to add, not my first rodeo with vintage/antique gun accessories. I’ve been collecting a variety for quite awhile, which is why I am so mystified by never encountering one of these before. Hoping someone out there can enlighten me! Google Photos

That's a nice piece of work.
I'm not sure it solves a problem or is at all practical, but it is very elegant.
It is best described I guess as 'functional art'.

The system is exactly like some shelter half poles I have that preceded the separate 3 piece poles we used, Viet Nam era. They are WW2 ( or maybe WW1) poles. While the same system, they are definitely not up to the cleaning rod in execution.

Drill a hole lengthwise thru the middle section, thread an elastic cord thru the hole and attach the cord ends to the end sections.
Fold like a tent pole, and will still screw together.....
Just posted as a joke, but possibly could work?

For Geo N. That will work for sure and you can go down to your local camping store and buy a tent pole for the same purpose, but the brass hinges are so much more elegant.

Ya know, it got me thinking.
I have a wooden three piece rod I never use, saved to put into a shotgun case, when I make one for some gun.
As far as the elastic, well, maybe a ball or swivel chain would be possible.....hmmmm...
Am going to try drilling out the middle section and finding a suitable "chain".
Will advise if it works out.......

Took my 3 piece apart, drilled a 0.155 hole thru the center section.
Now I need some bead chain from a drapery store, or thrift shop.....
That may take a while under the circumstances......
