I was never treated badly by the civilians when I was in uniform. The ultimate test was hitch hiking up and down I-95, sometimes in the middle of the night. I never stood out there for long and got some great long rides. Once, I was let off at an exit for Petersburg, Virginia. A trooper stopped and told me I was not allowed to hitch rides on the Interstate. He took me up several miles, let me out, and told me that was the end of his territory, and good luck.

Might have been the summer of 1972, 82nd Airborne Division Review. Marching 9 abreast--the entire Division listening to Strom Thurmond address his "proud young warriors" while Jane Fonda and her rabble had a yuge protest just outside the main gate. All we wanted to do was get out of our class A's and go whup sum hippies asses!! The command "asked" us not to!

I remember Hanoi Jane visiting the campus of my college in the early 70s. The school was pretty liberal for GA and she'd been invited to speak. I was walking up the sidewalk and recognized her just ahead of me. She stopped and we had an ok conversation. I may have been wearing my ROTC uniform so the conversation was not lengthy. I hated what she was doing back then and I don't think she's ever been forgiven. Oh well, we'll always have "Barbarella"...Geo

AZMike, I lived about 200 yards from the 82nd jump tower on Stonestreet Avenue for some time. I loved to hang around the tower when it was being used. I wanted so badly to try it out. However, I was told that the only way I could get on the tower jump was to declare "Airborne". I chose to continue on the path I had already volunteered to follow.

George, Jane Fonda will have to someday answer for what I consider, her treason. Karl

I hated what she was doing back then and I don't think she's ever been forgiven. I agree, Geo. For someone to be forgiven they must first be sorrowful for their actions or speech. IMO, she has never shown any reticence for her actions and speech. Therefore, no forgiveness can be forthcoming. That does not mean I lose sleep over her, I don't. She is not that important (to me). SRH
May God bless America and those who defend her.

I wouldn't give her a handful of dried briars if she was a bull in a concrete pasture. Mike
