Sorry PeteM, The gun is not in my possesion. I just let it be known that I was interested in buying the gun from the mans uncle. The uncle told him that it was up to his son who does not hunt or shoot. At one point he told my friend that he was going to just turn it into the police along with two other wrecked hammer guns but my friend talked him out of that! Can you imagine? Thankfully I've got a shot at it but it might be a package deal with the other guns which might not be to bad either. I knew that the Burgess was one of the first pumps but that was about all I knew when I saw the gun. The engraving is just a circle of scroll with a duck or bird in the middle. I don't recall it having any border engraving. The checkering is somewhat crisp and the wood looked half decent. Maybe English walnut. Hammerback has got a nice one. I assume that is a refurbish.
