This from Terry Buffum:

The bar in wood I sold to "SxS 40" at Las Vegas two years ago was also a 29" barrel gun. I don't know if that is one of the three you listed. If not, perhaps he will measure it exactly for your records. I think I sent you photos; it was my favorite (and first Reilly I bought).

Went through my list...Terry had two shotguns with 29" barrels. The bar-in-wood is SN 27750 with Whitworth steel barrels - I did not have the barrel length in my data. So guess I'm wrong...still the Reilly usual standard for Damascus was indeed 30".

Terry's 27750:

HWK (SXS 40) sure collected some nice Reillys from Terry.

Powell's patent action SLE "lifters" were made between 1890 and 1911 - 29" barrels
were common.

Mike Burnett responded that this is one of Cyril Adams' guns - he will supply SN, name/address on the rib and patent use info this evening. Given it was a Cyril Adams gun, the barrels are undoubtedly intact.

This will be the third Cyril Adams Reilly seen recently. The two others have been pictured on DGS.

A beautiful bar-in-wood side-lever 12-bore hammer pigeon gun with two sets of barrels, third bite and scroll engraving. Cased in leather. This was used as his go-to game gun when Cyril Adams visited the UK for many years.

I recorded some of those sales a few years ago. The links have expired. 24534 inspired an outbreak of ill-will on this board rarely ever seen, such that the discussion lines were deleted by Dave. The usual suspects were involved.

Both Cyril Adams' Reilly's I believe wound up in Los Angeles. Perhaps this one will too. (Cyril must have been pretty naive I guess because he didn't know he was shooting a "Webley." Oh well, he didn't have the understanding of guns that this board does - Stan knew him).

Looking for a link for Frank though, this one might work? smile

I am lucky enough to know Cyril and have visited him at his home just off Westheimer in Houston several times in the past. As a matter of fact now that I recall it I shot my first and only ZZ's at one of his events West of Houston. Cyril knows a Webley pattern back action when he sees one, and he also knows that many pigeon shooters favored the back action design in their pigeon guns because of the action's greater strength over the London pattern bar action. You may be surprised that some people on this board may not know that. Of course he is not the only one who knows one of the Webley pattern/style action when he sees one. However, Cyril knows more about English guns than anyone in America and I wish I knew half of what he has forgotten.

The London gun retailer William Evans had Webley to make many, if not most of their guns and rifles. The Webley W&R action was a favorite amongst the trade and their screw grip double rifle was considered the strongest English double rifle action by many in the trade. Other London retailers used Webley as well and I do not recall if Webley built any guns for Holland & Holland while Hollands's was a retailer only. It is not a disgrace to be a retailer.

Some of the the London best quality gunmakers used others to build some of their best quality London pattern SLE guns, such as a Stephen Grant & Sons SLE I own that was built by John Robertson before Robertson bought Boss & Co.

Compared to Cyril, I know nothing and I admit that I am a amateur who has only built and engraved a double gun or two and even a barrel or two. However a amateur who has had the good fortune to spend time learning a wee bit about the gun trade while living where the best English guns are made and sold. Yes, I am probably naive, but not naive enough not to know that I do not know what I do not know.

Sort of off the topic, but an interesting Reilly, nonetheless.
