This ad is on Guns International: https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-f...=101294575#lg-7I've asked for the SN and other info from the gun for historical research. I've never seen a Reilly Shotgun at this price (other than George's 4 bore being offered at $80K but that is an impeccable 4 bore more than a Reilly)...and remember Reilly prided himself on quality for the price; he was not in competition with Purdey and H&H but still put out an excellent product. But is it my imagination or do those barrels look to be 28". i.e. cut back 2" because the standard Reilly barrel of the time was 30"? (barrel length not mentioned in the ad): And blue screws?

They list the LOP at 14 1/2". On my screen it measures 3 5/8". The barrels measure 7 1/4" in the same pic. Therefore, according to those measurements, the barrels are exactly twice as long as the LOP. This would put the barrels' actual lengths at 29" .......... if they are giving the exact LOP.
I've never confirmed this method by then measuring the actual gun, but it should be very accurate.

Interesting technique Stan...I didn't think about it. I still think the length of the barrels doesn't look quite right...29" would indicate they are missing an inch. Not a lot of details in the ad. Hopefully they'll respond to my note.

In my mind, a double is aesthetically at its best with barrels very close to twice the pull length. They just look proportionally correct in my eye. Barrels much longer look like something for a pole vaulter & much shorter look Stubby. In the full-size picture, this gun appears very well proportioned to me.
At 5' 8˝" & well fit with a 14" LOP I find 28" barrels to be my all-time favorite, though I have done some good shooting with anything from 26"-30".

Many British guns were made with 29" barrels, originally. Dickson and Woodward come to mind .

I have a database of advertisements for about 300 Serial Numbered Reilly's and about 50 more which had no SN or in which the SN was not mentioned. A lot of the shotguns with original Damascus barrels (rifles are another matter) had 30 inch barrels including the 16 bores. A few (pigeon guns or 8 bores) had 31 or 32 inch barrels. That's why I wondered about the length of these barrels.
But reviewing the database I do find original 29 1/4", 29 1/2", and 29 3/4" barrels. The BPE rifles usually have 28" barrels although there are a number which are 26" or 25". So I guess the 29" barrels could be original. I have a feeling this is a late gun....SN 34xxx or so...late 1890's. Hopefully the seller will get back to me.
