Coming from a good bit of machineshop background, I totally agree with those that recommend piloting off the bore and reaming from the breach end. Also, be sure the reamer runs true on the extension.

It's not brain surgery but requires some understanding of how a reamer works and mechanical aptitude.

Tooling could cost upward of $100-150 for all the pieces for an extension, reamer, pilot bushings, etc. If you need a carbide reamer for cutting chrome bores, it'll be more.

There's a guy named Bob Day in Pico Rivera, Calif that has a biz called R&D Custom Barrel Service, who specializes in this work. http://www.americhoke.com/ Jim Legg used him and was pleased.

I'll add my ha' penny's worth. Have it done by a specialist. I would suggest you have a very solid idea of how much less choke you want. You will have more success if you keep in mind the 28 ga "limitations" of a smaller pattern circle, say 24" at about 30 yards instead of the traditional 30" at 40 yds.

I love the 28, been shootin' one for upland for 'bout twenty years. Taken pheasants, woodcock, qual and grouse. Plumb deadly on rabbits. Choked Mod and Full. Will knock a rising pheasant sideways. Some like the first barrel opened up more to IC. That's fine just make sure your pattern is dense.

Other's mileage may vary.

What Chuck said about me and Bob Day's work is very true. The Bernardelli I have up for sale now, had chromed bores and the left barrel was tighter than I wanted and shot a bit off to the left. I asked Bob to make the chokes .010"(right) and .025" (left) and correct the impact problem. He did both perfectly. Not the reason I'm selling the gun, I just don't shoot it enough to justify feeding it every day, in my safe. If you know what you want in choke dimensions, however, I'd recommend Mike Orlen. He's less expensive than Bob, very quick and does a fine job.
