Anyone here get a lot? I sent in a bid, the gun went 800 more than estimated. Oh well try again...

Zero for three. My heart was not that into it. Getting a gun imported from them seems to be a bit more time consuming than Holts. Im even wondering if I should even put a couple bids in on the next Holts. Wonder if the leaving he EU makes this an easier deal or harder.

Leaving the EU will most likely make no difference at all. The UK is morally in-line with the EU rules and I doubt there is any appetite in the powers that be to change anything.

I did not bid this time. I did look over the results sheet and noticed that of 7 Purdey lots (3 pairs, 2 hammer guns, and 2 sidelocks) that only one hammer gun sold. This, combined with the results of some other recent auctions, leads me to conclude that the second hand Purdey market is depressed.

I sent in a bid but must not have got it as I have no notification. How do you know what they went for. The results aren't in his "result" section yet.

Never mind I found it.

Mike,

There is a link to the hammer price list on the main page Hammer Price. You need to know the lot number.

About 60 of the 162 Lots did not sell. Tough auction.

It was at a different venue. Wonder what the attendance was? Perhaps all the Brexit mess is just causing people to be a little reserved these days. Plus the antis seem to be getting more vocal.

When Holts has a large number of unsold lots many are offered at a price later. That does not encourage me much. I figure if all those who viewed it, did not consider it worth a bid, they might be right and I could be wrong to bid after the sale. How many real buys slip through? From the auction house it make sense to move items so they get paid. I get the feeling there may be a lot of inventory coming to market if the anti gun, anti hunting groups have their way. Sad times to me.

When I read this thread about how dismal the sale was I had to go and look for myself. I could not believe the lack of sales on some of these nice guns.
What does that speak to for our English guns?
I have a Purdey 20 bore I am looking to sell this fall.
I am also looking at buying a single trigger "Best" Lang, built in 1905 and asking price $12,500. Is that to much based on the depressed market now?

Good guns are still selling. Box lock are not in demand. Hammer guns are hit or miss. Quality still sells but once you get over 5,000 it seems like everything gets a microscopic examination. Half the guns I see did not sell fir small money had stock cracks. The high dollar stuff was weak but without seeing the gun you can not tell if that was due to condition issues, high reserves, small turnout or just a soft market.
