I Heard that there was once a published load for 3oz of shot in a 10 gauge, loaded with 2400 as the propellant. Even the guy I emailed at bpi couldn't find a record of it. Anyone have it kicking around?

Heaviest lead payloads I have in two old BPI reloading fliers for the 10 ga. were to 2.5 oz. One load used Blue Dot, the other IMR 4227.

Bismuth Cartridge Company loaded a three ounce ten gauge load but I don't know what was in that shell. It was a fairly slow load. They are out of business now.

3 oz is a mighty Stiff load even for the 3˝" 10 gauge. In proportion to bore diameter, this is equal to a 2 3/4 oz 12 gauge or a 1 7/8 oz 20 gauge load Of course, with the 10 gauge in the US for most purposes we do not have the option of Stepping Up a gauge.

An 8 ga. is legal for turkeys in Ga. and SC. The limitation on legal shotguns is no more than 3.5" shell length. One heavy gun...

Based on the old 96:1 ratio of gun weight to shot weight a gun to fire 3 oz of shot at standard velocities should weigh in @ 18 lbs.

Mr. Miller what I find so comical is that most turkey hunters that hunted with the 10 gauge are now shooting fOe hunad n tin shotguns stuffed with #9 size TSS fAir dust for shot.

My Greener eight is factory chambered and nitro proofed for 3 3/4" shells. I wonder how much shot I could get in a 3 3/4" eight gauge shell?
