I have used one of the Winchester rifle type plates. As stated they are slightly smaller than original ones. Since it was for a replacement stock I was making, slightly smaller didn't matter, but keep in mind, you'll have to fit an original stock to the plate. The one I got polished up nicely with no pits in the casting. I hot blued it and it came out nice and black, but turned plum in about a month. Rust bluing remedied that. I wouldn't hesitate to use treebonecarving reproduction plates again.
