Great memories, Goillini and KY Jon. My Dad never shot doves with me but a couple times. He didn't have the drive to hunt that I inherited from my Grandad. He and I were "bosom buddies", as he used to say. I'm trying hard to be a greater grandad to my two grandsons than mine was to me, but I've got a rough row to hoe to accomplish that. Sure is fun trying, though.

It takes two months to get ready to go dove hunting...

That rates right up there.

No JOe it does not take two months it takes many more. Ive spent years finding and buying small parcels of land to use as dove field. Bought enough equipment to till, plant and mow the land for optimal dove shooting. Years of experimenting with different crops to find the best wet or dry year combinations. Experimenting with different ways to mow crops. Most of us mow too low just like our grass is cut too low. Dove like 6-10 not 4-6 most mow at. Its a bit harder to see and find birds so we mow too low. They like the extra cover while feeding. Mow two strips side by side and see which one they use the most. Buying and tweaking equipment, loads and guns. Its what I like to do as a pastime. Joe I have a routine which takes a day here and a few hour there. It allows me to enjoy the season for many months.

YUP,

Been gathering the decoy poles, checking on the spinners, checking the clips (clothes pins) on the other decoys.

Insuring there is aspirin, band-aids, paper towels, Rem-Oil and cleaning rods in the dove buckets.

Figuring out which 410 to take on opening day !!

Lots to do and think about, What JOY, What JOY !!

I am blessed in that I have access to a few sections of land
that normally have water and good flights of doves.

Mike

Mike, I just can't do what you did there with that record. It would ruin it to know just how many birds and how much money I've spent over the years on this obsession. I'd start questioning if my "fun return on investment" was worth it. As often stated on Shark Tank: "For that reason, I'm out."

What investment, it was all FREE.

I set up a Gun fund years ago and the guns
were bought with the excess from that fund.
No Family money was spent.

The hunting land was free use from a number of friends.

The ammo was Free, you know you can buy ammo at Walmart
in Feb/Mar for as little as a dollar a box and then sell
off some to make your ammo free smile

The only thing that cost me was time, and I consider it well spent.

Anyway, that is my logic pattern

I can help you here. Bring them all. A few birds with each and switch out. More fun.
