There's a whole lot about that Fox that ain't right.

No knowledgeable Fox man will pay anywhere near that price, IMO.

Could you maybe outline that "CS" in red, and show the rest of us where it is, or maybe use an arrow? I would really like to see it. I have so much to learn about this business, and it helps to be instructed by those who are so much more knowledgeable and observant than the rest of us.

Awaiting pics.

One thing is for certain IF & When I spend that kind of money I would want to get Exactly what I wanted. That would not be two barrels in different gauges. The 16 gauge @ 6 3/8 lbs would be ideal & the 28" would be what I wanted for the "Main" set choked at ¼-¼. For the second set, it could be 28" or go to 30" with a weight preferably not to exceed 6½ lbs, still in 16 gauge. For this set, I could live with 6 3/4 lbs if in the 30" length. "WHY" would one want a 20 ga set of barrels on a 16 gauge gun which weighs ½ lb more than the 16 & carrying similar chokes, WHY?? 28" or at most 30" is plenty long enough to "Reach Out & Touch someone" ala feathery meat". I am not into pole vaulting.

Another way to look at it might be, if something is desirable to a person, hasn't been made for a long time, and was available in very limited quantities. Then, I think there's something special about the item being unaltered. That doesn't mean anyone else shouldn't do what ever they feel like, but they don't make 'em like they used to. As to the subject gun, there's no doubt to me that it would become more interesting if the price varied, but I think there would be reasonable questions if it weren't for sale.

First thing I thought of when I saw this was those NOS barrels from Savage that hit the market maybe 15 years ago. There were plenty of 20 ga barrels as I recall.

As for why someone would want a set of 20ga barrels fitted to a 16ga that ends up slightly heavier, my experience with a 16/20 Merkel in this weight range suggests to me that I'd shoot the 20ga barrels more often at clays, for a few reasons. One, full power 16ga loads beat you up if you shoot 100 rounds out of a gun like this. I don't know anyone that would take this gun chukar hunting in the lava rock, or probably not many that would take it grouse hunting in the woods either, certainly not the average working stiff. Additionally, if we concede that a $36k vintage Fox is a range queen on a perfect sunny day, the availability and variety of factory 20 ga ammunition and lighter factory loads, make it attractive for a guy that has been spending his time making enough to pay for the gun, but wants to flash it at the local range or sxs event. Of the few people I knew that shoot guns in this price range, exactly none of them reload.

I'm not a Fox collector, but this one seems to have been priced like it was a high condition original finish gun, when it's really had a lot of work done and some of that is not up to the asking price expectations. For $36k, I'm sure we can all think of better places to spend it than this.

I seem to recall that in the case of the 2 barrel Parker Repro sets in 16 and 20 gauge, the 20 gauge set weighed more.
