So what? Who really gives a shit about some hypothetical pseudo-original one-off Browning purchase 20 years from now? Really?

There is a lot of upgrades out there, many folks know that they are upgraded guns and others do not. If you wish to do an upgrade for yourself I say go for it. For the few who said at one of Bobs other comments I can say this. For those of you who said about Bob selling the gun later and turning a profit, I doubt it. With all the time and money it takes to do this kind of ground up restoration, if does sell it and make any money, he is a magician. He is doing because he wants to. I say good for him.

Lots of stuff out there is phony or upgraded and passed off as original.

I know of two sets of phony British proof stamps.

I personal know someone very well that had a complete set of Parker roll marking dies made. Same as the original.

Ummm, it was Bob who said he had made a nice profit on his upgrades. Nobody else made that claim. But he deleted that comment for some reason, and had another tantrum. Go figure.

But your later comments about the number of phony guns and upgrades, and fake proof stamps, etc. make a strong case in support of what buzz said about the subject. Quite often, sales are done fairly quickly at gun shows or other events, where it may not be possible to wait for a factory letter or other due diligence.

Buzz is hardly the first guy who has given his opinion about upgrades here. Some folks like 'em and some don't. Some think they should have some prominent stamp or feature that will help to guarantee that they won't be passed off as original. There was no need to castigate buzz for his opinion,... or to accuse him of harboring a grudge.., or to have a tantrum and start another thread to denigrate him. Buzz was a gentleman in all of his comments.

Going by the pictures that also got deleted, my first thought was that this was a thread about old Ed Landers torch coloring.

I have a Doug Turnbull upgrade on an Elsie and it has a large "DT" stamped into the water table. I would call it a custom rather than an upgrade because it does not duplicate anything LCS ever made, so little chance of misleading a buyer. Also little chance of turning a profit on it.

What a great idea!
We could lobby Washington for the creation of a new regulatory agency.
You know, a place where Id be required to show up and register my gun.

Apologies in advance to Geo.
Although it may appear so, it is not my intention to call you a dumbass.

Bob,
I think you should fix your gun. It is your gun, do as you wish.

Hope the gun works out well for you. My project gun phase is well behind me, and, even then, I bought guns to shoot and use, catering to collectors is overrated, I think. Again, it is your gun.

Best,
Ted

I really like the acronym "DUMBASS" you have chosen to stamp your upgrades with Butthurt Bob...

Everyone will know exactly who built them.
