I thought it was pretty well established that Reilly didn't make guns.
100 guns...
bOb should've been calling them Cash Firearms.
100 years from now people could've been arguing if bOb Cash made guns

If Bob were capable of doing all that work himself the gun would still be exactly the same, which is way better off than the rusted, pitted original, IMO. What is the point in keeping a rusty, pitted gun original?
I don't understand your point exactly, buzz. You feel that if Art Isaakson bought the gun Bob has, and did the work himself, it would somehow be different .............. "warm and sentimental", because he did the work himself? Or, does that only apply to non-professionals?

Stan, Anyone who buys and sells 100 guns in a few years is a bit more than a hobby enthusiast. Sure, they like the guns, but they like the money more. I think Bob should be banned from selling guns here since he’s at least as much as a self admitted ‘hobby’ gun dealer here, just like Ed Good who does not list his guns here. In terms of Art Isaacson, he clearly lists what he does and does not misrepresent himself; so no sentimentality there. . He does not list guns for sale here so that’s another story....he’s a pro, so sentimentality is likely not part of the equation. My point is, there’s no sentimental attachment in what Bob does, it’s purely profiteering. If he did the work himself as a ‘hobby’ it might be different.
Socialism is almost the worst.

I think Bob stated this gun replaces a gun that he regrets selling. Sounds like he intends to keep this one. Finding an original like he wants may be impossible, so he is having it made. Seems a bit sentimental to me.
As for banning Bob from selling, that's Dave's call. But selling half a dozen guns a year seems like an obsession more than a business, to me. Aren't we all here for our obsession?

I will be devoting all my time to the study of Dentistry. In the future, I'm going to perform my own root canals. Allowing a D.D.S. to do my dental work no longer gives me a warm or sentimental feeling.

Buzz, IIRC that 100 gun figure was spread over “about 20 years”. A far cry from the implications of your choice of words “a few”. And so what if it is pure profiteering? What business is it of yours? Or whether he does the work or hires out? I don’t do any of the work on my guns. I like them too much to subject them to my ham-fistedness. Is there something wrong with profit? Have you joined the ranks of the Socialists. Or is profit only acceptable when it meets your standards on how it was achieved? jOe’s idiot comments were to be expected. I’m surprized at the effort you made to run Bob out of town on this subject. On this thread and Bob’s first thread on this gun. Seems like something seriously personal.....not just a philosophical difference. Maybe you could be upfront about that instead of giving us the self serving BS that you might have behaved differently if Bob did the work himself.

You are pretty certain of your assessments of Bob's motives in upgrading shotguns. He is a profiteer, IYO. How can you be so certain that he doesn't get a real satisfaction from making something better, and then, because he has other means of financial support, can price it so that it nearly always sells at a profit? Is there some higher ground here, for people who fix up a gun and then sell it at a loss? Also, the assumption is being made that he always sells the ones he restored/upgraded. How can you be so certain of that? We do not all approach this hobby with the same desires, or the same enthusiasms. As long as he is not ruining guns with torches and ham-handed work I say "bully for him". I hardly see selling an average of 5 guns a year as being a business. Whether or not he is abusing the forum's "For Sale" section is for Dave to decide, and I'm fine with whatever he decides. As much leeway as he cuts most of our off topic crap, I see no reason to deprive this forum of the ability to get an early crack at nice guns that might be offered by someone who moves more of them than you or I. That's just my opinions. Best to you, SRH
