Yep, Canada followed rule of law re extradition of the woman to US, and China retaliated by arresting two Canadians, facing death penalty.
Canada has a good reputation in China and its citizens are as distressed by superpower ricochets as we are with the United States.
To protect its interests. Canada is a partner setting up international trade, economic and military arrangements that specifically exclude the United States.

James, I'm voting Liberal for the first time in my life because of its stand on climate change. As for idiots and corruption, I haven't noticed much difference in any of them.
It's a blessing Canadians discuss their political inclinations without the disrespect and vehemence of what's exhibited by many American members here. Brought up differently must be the answer.

CB, I'm embarrassed but not the least bit reluctant to give Bill Clinton his share of credit for the recession. Yes, he freed the banks to do as they pleased. Craig, if SS were privatized, Wall Street would treat our funds just the way they did under Clinton and Bush. Tell us what a bum deal socialized public safety is. What is an asexual speaker of the house? Do you believe that adding that adjective makes her actions less effective? Where does sexuality figure in policy or political debate? All the more reason for Western Canada to depart the hypocritical and corrupt East. Breathtaking it has been these last couple of years. Simply breathtaking.
