Cryptic enough, so it must be a pigeon shoot?

Don't think much of anything. When the animal rights activists and demonstraters finally gave up the event died for lack of attendance.

Wrong, the pigeon shooters moved to a private club where activists can just stand out on the road remote from the doings. Some day these events will be banned everywhere. Shooting wild birds on their own turf is aptly called a fair chase sport. Shooting box birds is nothing but slaughter. Pleeeezzze no comments about rats with wings, etc.

Been there, done that, grew up.

"fair chase sport"

fair to whom?

'Splain that one to the activists.

Killing is killing. You didn't grow up, you just found a way to justify the killing YOU like to do.

I'm with Mike. I went to one "reserve hunt"- don't really see the difference in birds being thrown from a tower with 50 people standing around it and shooting birds released from a trap on the ground. Paul

One day everything will be banned and all God's creatures will happily co-exist. I think the world government issued jumpsuits should all be blue. Maybe grey.
But before we arrive in glorious Utopia, I want to shoot some box birds.

I guess the ones they buy in styrofoam covered with plastic were never alive. The only person that has the right to complain about hunting are vegetarians. I am not saying it would be a legitimate complaint but you can at least understand where they are coming from. The rest are just hypocrites.

Killing is killing, there is no difference. We all like to think that what we do is correct. Pretty soon the only birds you will hunt are "released birds". Here on the east coast there are no more wild pheasants, my state of Pa. was at one time the 3rd highest state in the US for over a million pheasants harvested. Now if you see one you better call the Game Commission and report it as an endangered species. I believe it was a avian flu back in the 80's that wiped them out, the state sayes lack of habitat. Plus they don't release 5-6 week old birds anymore.
There will always be activists for one thing or another. They will just pick a different subject. Maybe a few more movie stars will give their opinions on anti-hunting and everyone else that doesn't have an opinion or brain of their own will follow them.
They put a hold on a bear hunt in New Jersey because the election was coming up and the two running opponants didn't want to voice their opinion for fear of votes. When the one got in, he stopped the bear hunt. Isn't this why they hire biologists to do "their" job. I guess the governor knows more than the specialists. Not, the specialists don't fill his pockets like the anti-hunters do. This is where in my opinion that government officials should not be allowed to make these kind of decisions.

There was a live pigeon competition in Paris at the 1900 Olympics.

I have no problem with a pigeon shoot as long as the "targets" are consumed after the event and local laws are not violated. The last one held locally, that I am aware, was in 1992. There was a huge disagreement between various agencies and enforcement officials about the legality of the event. Eventually a ruling was made stating that it was legal. However, because of the legal bills incurred, the local club has stopped the event.

Other clubs have had similar problems:

Of course there are those who have a problem with this type of event:
