I have this Collath ejector gun and was wondering if the time period could be narrowed down. I have included pics of the proof marks. The trigger guard, grip cap and buttplate are all horn. The barrels say Excelsior Witten. There is no Tesco marking on the barrels so am I correct in assuming it would predate 1906?

Could be. Interesting Blitz or similar action w/ a different rear frame configuration. More than likely the Witten steel tubeset was made by the same Cat as Lindner - Dalys. There's a cut off date somewhere for Witten steel tubes I believe (a few lines down)": "The guns were made circa-1906 and circa 1908 respectively. Both carried the encircled W mark in the same spot.
Joh(?) Werner Gottgetreu of Suhl.

Also there was listed a Johann(?) Gottgetreu Werner. I wonder if the names got reversed or confused?

Thanks Raimey. That link shed some light regarding Witten steel tubes. This ole gal still has really nice bores and dent free on the exterior.

Witten Steel was supposed to be stellar & that is why Lindner - Dalys were fitted with it.....

I am still curious as to the action type. If you ever pull the stock, I'd like to see the striker system, possibly a block / Meffert type system.

Thanks Gil. I think that action to be a top-strap, horizontal block, with the strikers contained within, akin to Meffert's design but I can't find an image of that block for the moment.
