Well timed- I saw my first one today with board member John Mann. It was at Kittery- which also had an RBL. The S&W had better checkering than the RBL, straight stock, ejectors, and very nice CC. Fit and finish was good- with the wood being slightly proud. At $2300 I would probably take it over the RBL- although I wouldn't get either one.

Look real hard at the details. A bunch have come in with trigger-pulls measuring better than 20 pounds and one I saw had the rib seriously off center where it meets the standing breach. Nice RGS and PF banquet guns, but that's about it. S&W had them built to a price-point and got what they paid for.

Svelte guns, with delightful handling characteristcs. I would have to fire case of shells through one to say more.

They are made in Turkey for S&W and don't for a minute buy into the bs that S&W built a plant just for these guns.

I agree with my Stormy friend's statements about this gun and his comparison with the RBL. Please consider that I am not in the market for a new offering by anyone other than Purdey.:} And interest is about as far as that will go. I could not see the guts of the S&W but do know about the guts of the RBL. Cosmetically, to my eye, the S&W is way ahead of the RBL. What I really thought was that I would not buy either. There is an almost new, beautiful condition SKB 500 for 1/4th to 1/5th their price that I would take home in a skinny minute. Now, that is a bird gun of a proven quality. Not a copy and not a question mark. Best, John

When ever I hear one of these post about a gun from a person who would not buy the gun anyways I yawn. Like hearing all the Ruger bashers rant about Red Labels or Gold Labels. Why are people unhappy with S&W? Early production guns are a lot like early production cars. There are always a few bugs to work out. From what I have heard they seem to be working hard to get them right. For a Sub 3K gun they look nice. Triggers should be no big deal to a company that has been making them work for 100 plus years.

KY Jon, S&W is not a shotgun maker, never has been. It's that simple. They entered the doublegun market with a price-point gun that's not made from walnut taken from Noah's ark nor steel from the Titanic. It's a cheap gun made in Turkey, made by guys who will replace the magnetic S&W sign with the next maker's name.
