I hope he is back posting. I've learned to take what he posts with a grain of rock salt, but I have always enjoyed what he says. He certainly has good taste in bird dogs...Geo

One thing I will say for Dave--having met him once (long ago) and having engaged in exchanges with him on various BB's: Although he isn't always right on the facts and we certainly don't always agree, I've never seen the malicious behavior from him as I have from some here and elsewhere (most of whom hide their identity behind a nom de net).

I will give him credit for being hardheaded and resolute. Serially misinformed as well. Since he’s not actually a regular here, I have no complaint.
But he should understand before he wastes a single electron of Dave’s bandwidth, that people are more than happy to jump on it with both boots if he starts to post nonsense.
Out there doing it best I can.

I'm really not trying to pile on, but Dave has been at this on multiple Forums for a long time, has his reasons for his historical fiction, and I believe knows better. This is his post on the Lefever Forum regarding his "Special Order" Nitro Special http://lefeverforum.informe.com/viewtopic.php?t=1674Scroll down about 3/4 and he posted an image of "Kraus's signature Woodcock engraving" on a Gr. 2 Smith He posted the same gun this week on Shotgun World https://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=482434and the gun is now a "1898 L.C. Smith Pre-Production 20 Gauge on the Standard Frame" with "the finest Damascus Barrels Sir Joseph ever made" The first 20 gauge recorded in the Hunter Arms shipping records is a No. 2 SN 1003 finished July 12, 1907. He has also claimed that there were 8-10 28g Smiths produced. Here is his "1900 Silver Breech L.C. Smith Pigeon Grade SXS double gun with pre-production Beavertail Forestock, made for competition Pigeon & Trap shooting, only three of these guns were ever produced, two for the Hunter Arms professional demonstration shooter, and one for my Great Grandfather who was a silent partner with John Hunter Sr. President and CEO of Hunter Arms." http://gundogforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=31578

Not shotgun related, but akin to some of "Beans" stories just three days ago a gentleman told me he owned a Seth Thomas clock which predated the revolutionary war., made in 1885, Odd thing is Seth Thomas was not born until 1885, started mighty Young I'd say. Also, he did not begin making clocks until 1813 or during the War of 1812. I do have a Seth Thomas which was most likely made prior to the "War of Northern Aggression" as it was made in Plymouth Hollow CT. About the time of the end of this war, the clock factory burned. The town told Mr. Thomas if he would stay there they would re-build the factory, which he did. The town name was also at this time changed to Thomasville CT.

I dont share a whole lot on this forum, in part because it's been particularly acidic with personal politics that I have nothing to do with.
But Beans needs to be swatted down. Because he has seeded so many forum threads with abject fantasy simply because he gets high off of feeling like he sounds like an expert.
My father was a paranoid schizophrenic, so Im particularly well studied on identifying the telltale markers of such people. And Beans is one.
If he was just a nut bar off his meds he would at least get the polite correction I and others attempted to give him when he Chernobyl'd on the old Lefever forum.
But old Dave's tongue and ego are a lethal combination of offense, which typically requires "addressing."
This is the reason he no longer frequents here, or the LACA, or the LCSCA. Because people here are not just generalist gun owners as likely to discuss their AR-15's and Glocks as they are old SxS's. Those you can fend off with bluster. But here people have lots of specific knowledge, and stand their ground in the face of his ridiculous, baseless assertions. And the result is he ALWAYS blows up. It took him 8 posts on the LACA forum.
Bottom line...one who traffics in lightening deserves to get shocked. Such is Beans.

I don't think the forum exposure we have mentioned is a complete list of his postings. The names may change, but not to protect the innocent.

I do recall Beans posting about that gun on the SSM BB. I think that I was the one--at least on that forum--who initially recognized it as perhaps the world's most customized Lefever Nitro Special. Can't deny it's "one of a kind".
